We have been discussing dehumidifiers for a while now, specifically focusing on refrigerant dehumidifiers such as the Colzer CFT4.0D 232 Pint Commercial Dehumidifier and many others. Today, we would like to shift focus a little bit and review a desiccant dehumidifier we believe you would like if you are looking to remove dampness, large amounts of humidity, or flooding for the whole house, basement or warehouse, the EPD200-PRO DryFan 200 Pt Stainless Steel Desiccant Dehumidifier.

In our ultimate dehumidifying buying guide, we told you that you will come across two types of dehumidifiers as you shop: desiccant or refrigerant dehumidifiers.

Desiccant dehumidifiers are more efficient than refrigerant models since they can function efficiently in cold and high temperatures. The only disadvantage of these units, however, is that most of them lack modern technology. We understand that this product will function well even in commercial freezers or in humid but cold spaces.

So, what do you need to know about this dehumidifier? Is it worth the price? Read further to learn more.

Brand

Ecor Pro is a brand that focuses on providing dehumidifiers for all uses. They have models for homes, commercial spaces, boats, RVs, Crawl spaces, garages, warehouses, indoor swimming pools, and basements. Also, all their dehumidifiers come in a wide range of sizes, from 50 pints to 300 pints.

Why should you trust their products?

Well, the brand has been making dehumidifiers since 1974. Their physical headquarters is in Holland, but they have different warehouses and stores in USA, UK, and China. Meaning they have a good understanding of various markets and their needs.

Other than this, the primary goal of this brand is to ensure that they provide high quality and affordable appliances which are easy to maintain and repair. A characteristic that is common in most of their appliances is that they don’t use condensation like most units in the market. Instead, they vent the moist air away, which, according to them, prevents water loss. All their equipment, in our opinion, are environmentally friendly and easy to install.

Product Features

So what exactly makes this product unique? For us, it’s the size. When selecting any dehumidifier, this is the first thing to check. It matters because it determines how effective the unit will be in drying a specific space. For instance, areas or spaces that have more dampness or humidity and are large will need a dehumidifier with a high pint value.

For the EPD200-PRO DryFan 200 Pt Stainless Steel Desiccant Dehumidifier, it can remove up to 200 pints of moisture in any room within 24 hours. Which makes it a reliable appliance for dehumidifying any area with a lot of dampness and flooding. You can also use it in homes that are close to water bodies such as swamps.

I also find it suitable for commercial spaces as large as 3,000 sq. ft. That includes warehouses, construction buildings, storage facilities, indoor swimming pools, commercial freezers, and other humid environments.

What are the physical attributes of the dehumidifier?

The EPD200-PRO DryFan 200 Pt Stainless Steel Desiccant Dehumidifier comes with so many features that make it durable. For instance, its physical chassis is made of stainless steel, which is one of the reasons why it can operate in environments that have high moisture. It also has a hard epoxy paint finish, which strengthens it in these conditions.

The dehumidifier also has a four-hole system, comprising of two inlets and two outlets. Inside the unit, you will find twin turbo fans – one for blowing the humid air into the system and one for blowing out the dry air out to the chamber or room. The two fans separates the humid air to the dry air, thus quickening the dehumidification process.

For portability, the unit comes with two metallic carrying handles, which are removable. There are four anti-scratch pads attached to the four corners below to prevent scratching during transportation.

Setting it up

In our opinion, setting up the EPD200-PRO DryFan 200 Pt Stainless Steel Desiccant Dehumidifier is simple. You can place the unit on the floor or hang it on walls or ceilings since it can operate even when it’s upside down. We also noticed that you could stack several of these units together when storing or using them. Note that the dehumidifier also operates as a free standing unit, or you can connect it to your duct system via one of the 5-inch inlet and the 3-inch outlet.

The unit also has an automatic technology, which only works when you connect the unit to an external humidistat. Once you set it up, the other things are automatic. It will start dehumidifying the room if the humidity is not within your set range.

Pros

First, I like the fact that this unit is compact and has a durable finishing that will stand any harsh environment. And to add to that: being a desiccant dehumidifier, it can operate in temperatures below 65 degrees, which most refrigerant units can’t. For this one, in particular, its operation range is within -4 degrees to 104 degrees. Therefore, you can use it dehumidify a commercial freezer since frost doesn’t affect it.

Normally, people complain that desiccant dehumidifiers are power-hungry. The EPD200-PRO DryFan 200 Pt Stainless Steel Desiccant Dehumidifier is not. I had to check severally to confirm that it uses 100V, a voltage range that most energy efficient dehumidifiers in the market use. Further, you save energy with its automated technology, which most of the desiccant units in the market lack.

And apart from not using refrigerants to function, it doesn’t drain the water in liquid form. Instead, all the left over water goes out of the hose in vapor form. By the way, when I say this, I don’t mean that refrigerants are not safe to use. Not at all.

Other benefits we saw include:

  • Easy to clean filters
  • Long power cord, which makes the unit ideal for crawl spaces
  • You shouldn’t have any problems transporting it
  • The noise level is at 58 dB, which is the same noise level as your refrigerator
  • It weighs 53.8 pounds; hence, it’s light to carry by one person
  • The unit also an hour meter, which helps you calculate energy consumption

Cons

Like any other product you will find in the market, the EPD200-PRO DryFan 200 Pt Stainless Steel Desiccant Dehumidifier has limitations. For instance, it doesn’t have an internal humidistat. You have to connect an external one to the unit via the dedicated port at the front of the unit. Which means you may have to spend more money for the unit to work. I think the manufacturer should include an in-built humidistat in the newer version or provide one in the package.

The other issue with this model is that it doesn’t have Wi-Fi connectivity. For me, I think this is a must-have for most equipment in the market today. I looked at other models from this brand, and I noticed that none had any smart capabilities. So, you have to rely on the self-regulating feature on the unit, which can be less efficient, especially when you are away from home.

Conclusion

That’s all you need to know about the EPD200-PRO DryFan 200 Pt Stainless Steel Desiccant Dehumidifier, folks. We recommend this unit for people with large spaces, and especially if you live in harsh environments. The unit has the required capacity to dry your air and remove flooding effectively and instantly. For commercial uses, this unit also fits well. It’s easy to transport and can remain functional in freezing conditions.

In our opinion, this unit is worth the price. The design, construction, and pint capacity make it a go-to dehumidifier for most uses. If you want to know more about the unit, head over to the Amazon buy page.
