Hello and welcome back to RefrigerantHQ! Today, we’re excited to talk about Honeywell MN10CESWW Portable Air Conditioner. This portable air conditioner is packed with features and benefits. We’ll get to those; however, first, we’ll take a look at the company which brings us the unit: Honeywell.
This review is rather timely for a couple of reasons. One is that it’s summer now! Here in Kansas, the temperatures are hitting the upper 90s. Parts of the country, such as California and Texas, will have their temperatures reach in the 100s today and other times this week. Another reason it’s timely is that the more reviews we have, the better choice you’ll be able to make when buying a portable air conditioner. We want you to be able to make the best choice for your current situation. That’s why we ardently continue to write these reviews.
Why should you buy the Honeywell MN10CESWW? What makes it so unique? What are the benefits and possible drawbacks of owning this unit? Like others we’ve reviewed, you’ll find out all of this information, and more. Without further delay, let’s take a look at Honeywell!
Honeywell
Honeywell is a massively large public company. It’s not surprising then when I write that it trades on the stock exchange. As of this writing, their stock is trading at $144 per share. That’s not bad! As a matter of fact, that’s on the higher range of prices. They must be doing something right. Honeywell boasts 130,000 employees, although they are not all located in the U.S. Most of them, 72,000, are actually located in different countries around the world.
Honeywell traces its roots back to 1885. Then, the company originally sold thermostats. It’s interesting to note that they still sell thermostats today. As a matter of fact, Honeywell includes an internal thermostat in the Honeywell MN10CESWW. In addition to offering portable air conditioners and thermostats, Honeywell sells the following: safety products, home air quality products, home security products, backup power systems, home care and cleaning products, muck boots, home electronics, and various other commercial products. When I said that Honeywell is a “conglomerate company”, I meant it!
That, my friends, brings us to our feature product of today: the Honeywell MN10CESWW. Let’s jump in and get started learning about the main product features!
Product Features
First thing’s first ladies and gentlemen. This unit is rated at ten-thousand BTUs. BTUs, or British Thermal Units, are a way of measuring the cooling capacity of your unit. The higher the BTU number the more power your air conditioner will have. Here’s the thing though folks. You do not want to get a unit that is TOO big for your room. If it’s too big then you’re going to be spending too much on your energy bills and you will also end up with hot and cold spots throughout your room. On the flip side, if you get a unit that is too small for your room then your product will end up running constantly and causing you to pay more in energy bills then you should. Along with that your room will never be fully cooled to your desired temperature. In the case of the Honeyewll MN10CESWW at ten-thousand BTUs it is rated to cool rooms up to four-hundred and fifty square feet. If you’re not sure what size air conditioner you need feel free to check out our Window Air Conditioner Buyer’s Guide article by clicking here. While this deals with window units the same principles apply when it comes to mobile air conditioners.
One of the best things about the Honeywell MN10CESWW is its auto evaporation feature. What does this mean, exactly? To answer this question, you need to know how air conditioners work. Thankfully, we recently wrote an article titled “How Do Portable Air Conditioners Work?“. Check it out after this one if you’re curious. The bottom line is that moisture builds up in a portable air conditioner. That’s why many, or most of them, include a “drip tray”. A drip tray collects moisture that accumulates over time. Eventually, you’ll need to empty this tray and put it back under the portable air conditioner.
The Honeywell MN10CESWW is different. The auto evaporation feature means that you don’t have to deal with emptying the drip tray every so often. You can simply “set it and forget it”. Convenience is key, at least it is for me. When I buy a product, part of what I’m looking for is convenience. And you’ll find it with this portable air conditioner!
The second feature I want to talk about is that it has a Quiet Operation Mode. Why is this important? Many people are light sleepers. I don’t fit into this category; however, there are those who do. Quiet operation means that this unit won’t disturb your sleep at night if you decide to run it at night. On Amazon, Honeywell writes “Honeywell Portable AC’s dual motor technology means lower noise levels. At the highest speed setting, the Classic Series Portable ACs produce between 51 to 54 decibels (depending on the model BTU). That’s about the sound level of an average conversation between two people in a quiet room!”
Now that we’ve covered two major features, let’s take a look at other benefits of this portable air conditioner.
Pros
The Honeywell MN10CESWW can cool rooms up to four hundred and fifty square feet. How much is that? Consider this: a standard bedroom is around one hundred square feet, give or take. This portable air conditioner just got more powerful. Didn’t it? It can cool bedrooms, home offices, and the den. How about small studio apartments? Yes, it can cool those too! That is, of course, if the studio is four hundred and fifty square feet, or less.
Let’s say that the temperature is currently good. However, you want to move the air around for whatever reason. You want some air circulation. The Honeywell MN10CESWW portable air conditioner has a fan-only mode of operation. Problem solved! With this feature, there’s no reason to buy a separate stand-alone fan for the room. Simply turn on the fan-only feature to get the air circulation you are looking for.
The next benefit is a big one. This unit includes a digital readout along with a remote control. You’d think that all portable air conditioners would come with a remote control. But that isn’t the case! Who wants to get out of bed at 3 A.M. to turn their portable air conditioner on or off? With the Honeywell MN10CESWW, you don’t have to. Just remember to keep the remote control next to your bed, perhaps on a night table or something similar.
Let me focus now on the digital readout. How do you know what desired temperature you want the room to be? If the Honeywell MN10CESWW reads “80 degrees”, you might want to bring the temperature down to 70 degrees. You can set the unit to your desired temperature and it will do the rest. There are portable air conditioners out there that don’t have a digital thermometer readout. As a matter of fact, they don’t display any type of temperature readout at all. They have analog features and, while they may work, they aren’t as user-friendly as the Honeywell MN10CESWW. The digital temperate display makes it easy and allows you to get the desired temperature for your room with ease.
If you’re concerned with air quality, the Honeywell MN10CESWW is a great option. I say this because this portable air conditioner includes a washable filter! Removing it is simple, as you’ll read in the instructions. Simply remove it, wash it, and put it back into place. On the Amazon page, Honeywell states “The Washable Filtration System filters dust, pet dander, and hair from entering the unit – All of this helps reduce impurities in the air and it is easy to clean by running the filter under a faucet.”
Speaking of user-friendly, the Honeywell MN10CESWW portable air conditioner operates in three power modes. By three power modes, I mean it runs three speeds. Let’s say that, one day, you come home from work in the later afternoon. You didn’t know it was going to be 102 degrees outside and you forgot to turn on your air conditioner. Oops! That’s the bad news. The good news, however, is that you can run the Honeywell MN10CESWW on its highest setting to cool the room the fastest. Other times, you might want to change the temperature only a few degrees. If this is the case, you might want to run the unit on the lowest setting, which will do the job and also save on your energy bill.
Some people, especially interior designers, love to customize the look and feel of each room. With the Honeywell MN10CESWW portable air conditioner, you’re in luck! That’s because this unit comes in three colors. Or, better put, you can choose one of three colors. The colors are black (Honeywell MN10CESBB), black and silver (Honeywell MN10CES) , and white (Honeywell MN10CESWW). This added level of customization is a welcome one for people with different tastes. It’s not one size fits all. Instead, you get to choose which color you think would look the best in your room.
Finally, and arguably the most important is that this unit is easy to install. On the Amazon product page, Honeywell states “All accessories are included for a quick installation on vertical or horizontal windows. Roll the AC to your preferred cooling area, set up the window kit, switch the AC ON and Voila! Immediate cooling without the heavy lifting of traditional window ACs.” This is important because people want something that works right out of the box. The Honeywell MN10CESWW requires minimal installation, which is a welcome benefit to this portable air conditioner.
How’s that for benefits? The Honeywell MN10CESWW has many of them! But like all products, there are some possible drawbacks. Let’s take a look at what those might be.
Cons
One possible drawback to this portable air conditioner is that it weighs sixty-one pounds. It isn’t light! For some people, including the elderly, this might be more difficult to install and move around. However, the good news is that the Honeywell MN10CESWW comes with rollers. You can simply roll the unit around your home! You have to take into consideration you’re not going up or down stairs, however. Once the unit is in place, and if it’s going to be stationary for an extended period of time, the weight of the unit shouldn’t be a big deal. After all, portable air conditioners are known to be heavier in general.
Another possible drawback to this portable air conditioner is that there are some complaints of the unit being noisy. I know that, earlier, we talked about how the Honeywell MN10CESWW features quiet operation. How, then, can people complain about noise? Take this into consideration: other portable air conditioners might be even louder! Also, some people might be running the unit on high mode, and be in very close proximity to the unit. We often don’t know the full picture. However, I would suggest you head over to Amazon to read the comments. I always mean to recommend this, actually, every time we review a product.
Finally, there were some complaints about the fan always being on. You can choose to have the fan on by itself, without the unit being in cooling mode. However, if the unit is in cooling mode, the fan is always on to push air around. I always assumed that, if the unit is in cool mode, air would be pushed around. However, some people have commented that they would have liked it to be in cooling mode without the fan always running.
Conclusion
The Honeywell MN10CESWW portable air conditioner has just under four stars on Amazon. That tells me that this is a quality product. In addition, there are over 2,000 customer reviews and nearly 1,000 answered questions. Those are the most I’ve ever seen! People are definitely talking about this product, then. And it’s star rating has to be well-deserved.
I enjoyed writing about the Honeywell MN10CESWW. What did you think? Summer is here! And that means hotter temperatures are also here or right around the corner. You’re reading this at the right time. If you’re in the market for a portable air conditioner, consider the Honeywell MN10CESWW. Furthermore, we’ve written additional product reviews of other portable air conditioners. Take a look at those as well so you’re able to compare this one with the other ones.
